Fake notes seized in Malda

Malda: BSF personnel have recovered suspected fake Indian currency notes with a face-value of Rs 6,90,000 being smuggled from Bangladesh in Malda district.

Acting on a tip off, the border guards were keeping a watch at a place in Churiantpur border outpost last night and found someone from Bangladesh side dropped two packets and another person was coming to collect it from Indian side, a BSF release said today.

When challenged, both the persons managed to flee and the guards seized the packets containing suspected fake notes having a face-value of Rs 6,90,000 and three mobile phones.

All the 345 notes were in the denomination of Rs 2000.

The notes and mobile phones were handed over to the police for further legal action, the release said.

The BSF also seized country made weapons and bottles of cough syrup from Mehrani border outpost in Nadia district today.

Three 8 mm calibre handguns, some ammunition and 125 bottles of a cough syrup used as intoxicant were recovered, the release said.

However, none could be arrested.
