Email threat to Wankhede; accused says sent for fun

Mumbai, April 10: Charging Muslim’s for terrorism has been a very easy task for many. Especially LeT, SIMI, and many such organizations have been a very soft target for the common people, as the security squads around the world do believe when anybody bundles the blame on these organizations.

40 year old Rajesh Bhaskar Dave, a railway ticketing agent from Worli was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday on charges of sending an e mail threatening to blow up the Wankhede stadium on the day of the World Cup final.

The e mail that Dave sent said “Wankhede ground aur stadium mein 30 plastic bomb lagaya gaya hain, jisko satellite se blast kiya jaayega. Bacha sako to bachalo. Pakistan Zindabad. LeT.” (30 bombs have been planted inside Wankhede ground and stadium, which will be triggered via satellite, if you can save it, then save it. Hail Pakistan. LeT).

As soon as the email was received, 40 National Security Guards snipers were deployed at the stadium along with the bomb detection and disposal squads and additional reinforcements to clear the stadium.

ATS Chief Rakesh Maria disclosed that four mobile phones and one SIM card were recovered for Dave. He also mentioned that Dave had produced fake documents at Nashik to obtain the SIM card around ten months ago. Dave hadn’t used the SIM card since then, and this made us suspicious about him, Rakesh Maria added.

When Dave was interrogated by the ATS officials, he told them that he had sent the e mail only “for fun”. The technical wing of the ATS said Dave had used the SIM card to send the email using a server in Norway as proxy. Maria refused to divulge any details on the email account used or technicalities involved to trace the email.

This so called “fun” would actually cost a heavy price if Dave would not be traced. Another charge would include in the list of Muslim organisations and people would actually find another chance to say ‘it is only the Muslims who are involved in terrorism’.
