Electricity employees who are planning to go in for a strike under the aegis of labour unions today deferred with the intervention of Electricity Minister G Jagadish Reddy. The Government came forward to regularize the 1100 contract employees working in the department as linemen and the labour unions agreed to withdraw their strike plan. Chief Minister K Chanrasekhar Rao who recently promised to regularize the contract staff on Tuesday gave a nod to do so. With this the employees deferred their proposed strike the minister told media persons at Secretariat here after the talks giving positive results. Jagadish Reddy maintained that the government responded positively to their demands. The contract staff will not take up strike as the government agreed to regularize them he said adding that complete health services will be extended to outsourcing staff when met with accidents. It was also decided by the government to double the compensation to Rs 10 lakhs from Rs 5 lakhs to the kin of the employees die on duty he stated. (NSS)
