Hyderabad, July 09: The Election Commission tonight issued a notice to Andhra Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas for allegedly seeking votes in the name of caste for the coming bye-election to Nizamabad Urban assembly constituency.
“We have issued notice to him over the matter,” state Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao told.
The EC’s decision came following a complaint by Telangana Jagruti Sanstha president K Kavita that Srinivas was seeking votes in the name of caste. Kavita is daughter of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Srinivas, who is the Congress candidate from Nizamabad Urban seat for the bypoll scheduled to be held on July 27, is said to have made the speech at Nizamabad on June 29.
He should send his reply to the notice by 1100 hours on July 10, Subba Rao said.
