DTC plans sale of mobile recharge vouchers in buses

New Delhi, October 11: Commuters in the national capital would soon be able to buy prepaid mobile recharge vouchers onboard Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.

This is one of the several measures the cash-strapped DTC is planning to introduce to augment its revenue.

Transport department officials said government will also allow advertisements on the handle bars of the sleek low-floor buses of the Corporation.

The DTC will have a fleet of 5,000 low-floor and semi-low floor buses ahead of the Commonwealth Games-2010.

The DTC, which runs the world’s largest fleet of CNG buses, has incurred a total loss of over Rs 1,222 crore in the financial year 2007-08.

“A series of measures are being introduced to improve the financial position of the DTC,” they said.

As per the latest audit report, DTC’s accumulated loss stood at over Rs 6,500 crore as in March 2009.
