Dream Girl Hema Malini to pep up BJPs campaign

New Delhi, April 03: The campaign for the by-polls to three Assembly constituencies in the State is set to get glamour quotient with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s decision to rope in the “Dream Girl” of yesteryear Hema Malini for its campaign.

A senior party functionary told that Ms. Hema Malini, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka on BJP ticket, will campaign in all the three constituencies of Channapatna, Bangarpet and Jagalur on April 5 and April 6. She will address public meetings in these constituencies.

She is participating in the campaign because she is elected from Karnataka, he said while pointing out that no other central leaders are taking part in the campaign. Yet another Rajya Sabha member from the State M. Venkaiah Naidu may campaign in Bangarpet.

Taking part in the poll campaign in Channapatna may bring back old and cherished memories to the actor as it is 10 km away from the rocky terrain in Ramanagaram where one of the Hindi blockbusters Sholay, starring her, was filmed.

Meanwhile, the BJP has taken these polls seriously as it is an opportunity for it to make inroads into Opposition territory since all the three seats were held by the Opposition parties. In fact, by-elections were necessitated as the MLAs from these constituencies joined the BJP after quitting their Assembly membership won on ticket of the Opposition parties.

The party has handpicked a large number of Ministers and prominent leaders for monitoring poll campaign work in these three seats based on their regional and community affiliations. Three leaders have been made in-charge for each of the zilla panchayat wards coming under these Assembly constituencies.
