Alwar, December 03: A prospective groom’s insistence on dowry of Rs one lakh resulted in his would-be wife tying the knot with another boy and the marriage party to return home empty-handed in Kathomar town of this district yesterday.
As per the settled programme, Pushpendra of Bharatpur came to Kathomar along with the marriage party, to marry Shivsingh’s daughter Sunita. But, the groom’s side demanded dowry of Rs one lakh in cash before the wedding rituals could begin.
Faced with embarrassment, the bridal family asked for some time saying that they would try to arrange the money and in the meantime they silently solemnised the marriage of the girl with a boy of Halena town.
The groom’s side, on being told of the development, tried to create trouble but the police asked them to return home peacefully.
