DMK cannot be destroyed easily: Karunanidhi

Chennai, January 17: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said the ruling DMK is a movement that has rich legacy and it cannot be destroyed easily as being envisaged by a few (political parties).

Speaking at a marriage function here, the 86-year-old DMK patriarch, turning nostalgic, said the DMK, which has grown to this level due to toil and sacrifice by scores of party workers, could not be wiped out so easily.

”The sacrifice and toil of several persons have made the party what it is now. Many new entrants to politics have been trying to destroy the organisation, which has a great legacy. I only advise them not to sharpen their knives (to destroy the DMK) but to sharpen their skills as envisaged by his political mentor and late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

Recalling the sacrifices made by several leaders for the cause of Tamil and its culture, Mr Karunanidhi recalled his close association with late leader Dharmalignam, who he said was instrumental in DMK getting national attention by suggesting the nomination of Mr Annadurai to Parliament after he lost the Assembly polls in Kancheepuram.

Mr Annadurai was the first DMK member to enter Parliament when he was made the Rajya Sabha member.
