The Congress party on Wednesday claimed that the Digital India programme was really launched by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and taken forward several notches by the UPA government during its 10 year rule.
“We want to tell the BJP government that Digital India programme in India was really launched by former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who heralded in India a new IT age, IT and Telecom revolution. This work was taken forward many notches by the Congress-led UPA government in 10 years,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told ANI.
“We are happy that the Prime Minister is taking our initiative forward, but he cannot do so only by renaming National e-Governance Plan of Congress government as Digital India,” he added.
The Prime Minister earlier launched the ‘Digital India Week’ at Indira Gandhi indoor stadium in the national capital with a view to empower the people of the country through the Digital India programme.
Digital India aims to transform the country into a digitally empowered knowledge economy. (ANI)
