Hyderabad: In Hyderabad City, heavy diesel vehicles of more than 2000cc engines are likely to be banned. National Green Tribunal has already warned the Chief Secretaries of seven states, including Telangana. If the details of the diesel vehicles are not submitted, warrant will be issued to Chief Secretaries.
The hearing of this case filed by National Green Tribunal is scheduled on Monday next in Supreme Court. It may be noted that in Delhi, Diesel vehicles were banned which helped reduce pollution. National Green Tribunal said in its report that in 15 cities of the country, there are many diesel vehicles which are contributing to pollution. According to the report, the maximum limit of pollution particle is 2.5. If this exceeds, people would suffer cough, lung infections and other diseases. In Hyderabad, the pollution level has gone to 29.8 which is causing inconvenience to the citizen. According to the report, Banaras worst hit city wherein the level has reach 125.2. In Nagpur, it is 82.4, Mumbai 19.42, Pune 18.32, Chennai 53.14, Patna 81.6, Bengaluru 31.07 and Lucknow 35.5.
If heavy diesel vehicles are banned in 15 major cities of the country, the jobs of 47000 employees could be in danger. At present the ban is imposed in Delhi and Kerala.
Chairman of National Green Tribunal, Justice Swatantra Kumar expressed his anger on the use of diesel vehicles in Delhi and Mumbai. The tribunal has issued notices to eight states which include, Maharashtra, Telangana, UP, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Bihar.
Govt. of Telangana is likely to submit a report on Air Pollution Control to the tribunal very soon.
