Mumbai, August 24: Six foreigners are under the scanner in connection with the theft of diamonds worth Rs 6.6 crore from an international jewellery exhibition here, police said.
The precious stones, which were kept in a box, belonged to an Israeli firm and were on display at the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) organised at suburban Goregaon.
The incident came to light last evening when it was found that a box containing 887.24 carat diamonds was missing from the exhibition held under stringent security and surveillance, Additional Police Commissioner Ramrao Pawar told PTI.
“The diamonds worth Rs 6.6-crore belonged to Israeli company Dalumi Group which had put up a stall at the show. A company employee complained to the police about the theft,” he said.
After the theft, the show organisers immediately closed all gates and each person was thoroughly checked before being allowed to go out.
