Hyderabad, October 22: Director General of Police RR Girish Kumar today said that legitimate action will be taken against all those responsible for driving the agricultural officer Rajeshwari to commit suicide.
“We are waiting for some documents pertaining to the case. Based on the evidence and contents of the FIR , action will be initiated against anyone whose role surfaces,’’ the DGP said to a query on whether the TDP legislator from Devarakadra, Sita Dayakar Reddy, is being arrested.
Rajeshwari, AO in Mahabubnagar district set herself on fire recently, allegedly under pressure from some people’s representatives including the TDP MLA, for sanctioning of sprinkler systems.
At a press conference today, the DGP said that investigation of cases involves a delay. “We are verifying contents of the FIR and only then we will act. We cannot arrest people merely by registering a case. Investigation depends on the evidence available,’’ he said.
Asked whether the TDP MLA is being arrested, Girish Kumar once again said it all depended on the evidence. Police sources said that the Mahabubnagar district police is awaiting the dying declaration of Rajeshwari. “Our officials are on the job of obtaining a copy of the DD from the magistrate. Based on the DD, a case will be registered,’’ sources said.
They said that Rajeshwari’s family members have so far not lodged any police complaint.
SPURT IN NAXAL ACTIVITIES: On the Naxal front, the DGP said that there was a spurt in the activities of CPI Maoists. “Some incidents have also occurred and we are aware of the developments in Chhattisgarh and Orissa. We will take adequate steps to check their activities,’’ the DGP said.
Asked about the recent statement of Maoist leader Ganapathi that they would revive their activities in Andhra Pradesh, Girish Kumar dismissed it saying Maoist cadres keep making such statements to imbibe confidence of their cadres.
With regard to the welfare of police personnel, Girish Kumar said that 12,000 more personnel are being inducted into the force which will help reduce the stress levels of the forces. “Our duties are stressful and increase in manpower will reduce it,’’ he added.
