Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandarsekhar Rao today said he had decided to explain to people on the necessity of projects redesigning and drawing of allotted and adequate waters from the Godavari and Krishna rivers in the State.
At a review meeting at camp office with officials, the Chief Minister directed them to prepare a detailed report on various irrigation projects. The previous government deliberately made design to thwart the progress of the projects like Pranahitha-Chevlla on Godavari. “This project was not proposed by Vapcos and was taken up at the insistence of the previous government”, he said. He also expressed surprise over the previous plan of constructing a project on sub-river instead of main river of Godavari.
Since the aim of these projects was not giving fruitful results by catering to the needs of the crops, the Telangana Government is taking up design changes. The changes to be made will help Telangana draw our rightful share of irrigation waters and help construction of the projects accordingly, KCR stated. He said he will begin the construction of Kaleshwarma project as the Central ministers and Maharashtra ministers are for it. The State government will explain as to why it has to go in for design changes of the projects, including Kaleshwaram, construction of Tummidihatti, benefit of Medigadda barrage construction, proper use of Devadula and Ellampally projects and the need for handing over survey works of the projects to public sector unit of Vapcos, he said.
The Maharashtra Government is extending support for Kaleshwaram at Medigadda, he said and asked the officials to prepare a detailed report to explain to the people. KCR also asked to call tenders for Medigadda, Annaram, Sundilla projects to be built on Godavari. The government will not cancel the Pranahitha project at Tummidihatti in Adilabad district to offer irrigation waters to 2.5 lakh acres by only making necessary design changes to serve the purpose, he said.
KCR asked the officials to prepare an action plan to complete pending projects in Mahbubnagar in two years and supply waters for Kharif crops by completing Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Bheema in expeditious manner. The Chief Minister directed the officials to focus on efficient completion of the projects as the government will spend Rs 1 lakh crore for related works and allot Rs 25000 crore to the department every year and pool up another Rs 5,000 crore. KCR approved the redesigning of Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects by combining them. He asked Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao to call tenders for the works. He also asked the officials concerned to lift waters from Dummugudem and distribute waters to five lakh acres afresh in the district from Rodlapadu and Bayyaram reservoirs and asked to call tenders immediately for works.
