Dengue toll reaches 1,155

New Delhi, September 03: Showing no signs of abating, dengue cases continue to soar in the national capital with 74 more people testing positive for the disease.

According to the data released by the MCD, total number of dengue cases reached 1,155 with the addition of 74 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The mosquito-borne disease seems to be tightening its grip in the Capital as more than 50 cases are being reported everyday ever since its outbreak here.Around 67 cases were recorded yesterday also.

With the city receiving bountiful of 710.8 mm rainfall so far this monsoon–34 per cent above average, and dug up roads inviting favourable conditions for breeding of Aedes mosquito, the year has witnessed record number of dengue patients.

Never in the past 12 years have dengue cases crossed 1,000 mark by this time of the year in Delhi, an MCD statement revealed.

While only four cases were reported by this period last year, a total of 100 cases were registered in 2008 and only 22 in 2007.
