The Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) has appealed to the voters to defeat the MIM-BJP-TRS trio in the forthcoming elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Addressing a massive public meeting near Mehraj Cafe in Hafez Baba Nagar under Chandrayangutta Assembly Constituency on Saturday night, MBT President Dr. Khayam Khan described the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) as the most opportunists and unethical party which allies with other political parties to win elections. It sailed with the Congress in 2009 GHMC and General Elections and then it entered into a secret alliance with the BJP to win 2014 General Elections and this time it is having an understanding with both the BJP and TRS. He said that the MIM was able to win seven Assembly seats while helping the BJP in increasing its strength from two to six in the city. The MIM leaders are hatching the conspiracy to strengthen the BJP in the city in GHMC elections, he alleged.
MBT Youth Leader Amjed Ullah Khan (former Corporator) appealed to the people to cast their vote on the basis of agenda. He said that the people of Old City needs to evaluate the performance of MIM Corporators during their stint from 2002-2007 and 2009-2014. He said that the MIM Corporators have miserably failed to resolve the civic problems in the Old City. Despite having one MP, seven MLAs, 43 Corporators and absolute control over GHMC’s Standing Committee, the MIM failed to get adequate funds for the Old City of Hyderabad. People of Old City are forced to live in inhuman conditions and they have no access to basic amenities. He said that the MIM never came out with a manifesto or plans and therefore, it denied people an opportunity to hold it accountable for the failures.
Amjed Ullah Khan said that the people of Old City have realised the need for a change. The residents, especially youth, have started comparing their living conditions with those living in other parts of the city and country. The Old City residents want a responsible and accountable leadership which must identify, represent and resolve their problems. He said that the MBT would bring the required change in the Old City and the forthcoming GHMC elections would be different and historic, especially for the people of Old City, he said.
The meeting was also addressed by other senior leaders of MBT including Alhaj Syed Taher, Mustafa Mehmood and Altaf Naseeb Khan. (INN)
