New York, September 09: Three unlikely teens and a little sister have flipped form on its head as debutante Grand Slam quarter-finalists, but whether it’s a sign of the future at the US Open or simply a fluke remains to be seen.
Two weeks shy of her 18th birthday, tenacious American Melanie Oudin will face Danish ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer will meet Kateryna Bondarenko today on the Flushing Meadows hardcourt.
“It’s just nice to see there are newcomers coming up, young girls that are trying to get higher in the rankings and beat the top players,” Wickmayer said.
“I guess I’m one of them, the younger ones who are trying to take over… It’s great doing something like this.
