Lucknow, January 13: Darul Uloom, Farangimahal, today issued a fatwa asking Muslims to protest against the expected visit of controversial writer Salman Rushdie to India this month.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangimahali,in a fatwa, following a question asked by one Ejaz Ahmed, about what should Muslims do to prevent Rushdie from coming to India said that the Muslims should hold protest and demonstration opposing entry of the writer.
” Demonstration against Rushdie without breaking any law is justified,” he added
The Fatwa was issued after Friday prayers.
The Fatwa comes just after key Muslim religious organisations including the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband and the Barelvi sect had opposed the visit of Rushdie.
Rushdie is expected to visit Jaipur on January 21 to participate in the Literature Fair.
The Central government has made it clear that Rushdie is a citizen of the country hence he does not need any visa and they cannot stop him from coming.
