Dara Encounter: Two Summoned Cops Disappear

Jaipur, May 17: Two Rajasthan police officials, including a senior IPS officer, accused in a fake encounter case, have failed to appear before the CBI which had summoned them for questioning, an agency spokesperson said today.

The CBI had summoned three police officers A K Jain, A Ponnuchamy and Arshad Ali for interrogation on Sunday but Jain and Ali failed to show up.

“Both the officers have not turned up so far and the CBI is expecting them to show up,” an agency spokesperson said.

According to official sources, sleuths raided the houses of A K Jain, Additional Director General of Police (Home Guards) and Arshad Ali (Additional SP) yesterday but they were not found and their whereabouts are not known.

IG rank official Ponnychamy was arrested after interrogation late on Sunday and was remanded to two-day CBI custody yesterday.

Including Ponnuchamy, the CBI has so far arrested five cops including Inspectors Nisar Khan and Naresh Sharma, Sub-Inspector Satyanarayan Godara and Assistant Sub-Inspector Surendra Singh.

On a petition filed by Dara’s widow Sushila, the Supreme court had ordered a CBI enquiry in the case.

She had complained that her husband was killed in cold blood by the Special Operation Group (SOG) (then headed by Jain) in Jaipur in October 2006.

Dara’s family members have pointed fingers at a senior state BJP leader claiming that he was targeted because of personal enmity.

Dara Singh was facing several cases of smuggling, attempt to murder etc.
