Hyderabad: State Dept. of Transport has started taking necessary steps to ensure wearing helmets by two-wheeler bike riders on a large scale. But High Court of Hyderabad has put a break on these efforts and issued strict orders to create awareness about the importance wearing helmet.
In the light of the High Court direction, officials of the Dept. of Transport of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts are taking steps to create awareness about the use of helmet by distributing pamphlets and pasting wall posters, flexes and also through cinema slides. They are also creating awareness among the college students.
It may be noted that 70-80% of the road accidents are caused by not wearing helmets. The Dept. of Transport is making wide publicity that in case any bike rider does not wear helmet he is liable to be fined to the extent of Rs. 1000. Mr. Raghunath, Joint Commissioner of Transport, Hyderabad District and Mr. Praveen Rao, Dy. Commissioner of Transport of RR District told that steps are being taken on a larger scale to create awareness about the use of helmets. They also said that the response of the people is very positive.
