CPI(M) hiring ‘superi killers’ to murder students: Mamata

Kolkata, December 19: Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that the CPI(M)-led ruling Left Front was hiring ‘supari killers’ to murder students and create terror in the state.

Ms Banerjee’s high voltage accusation against the Leftists came a day after her demand for a CBI probe into the death of a college student during violence in Andul.

”CPI(M) is now hiring supari (contract) killers to eliminate students and engaging goons in schools, colleges and universities to create anarchy and vitiate the atmosphere of the educational institutions before the Assembly elections,” Ms Banerjee observed while interacting with newspersons here.

Regretting the growing incidents of campus violence, she said the CPI(M) was ‘afraid’ of going to Assembly polls and hence was resorting to ‘terror.’ ”It seems that West Bengal is now under military rule and Sec 144 has been promulgated in the entire state,” she maintained.

Holding Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee ‘responsible’ for the campus violence, Ms Banerjee asserted ” The Chief Minister should own responsibility even if a student dies in violence.” She reiterated that the killing of the student was executed by CPI(M)-sponsored criminals not knowing that he was an SFI activist.

Referring to college union polls, she alleged that students belonging to TMCP, the student wing of Trinamool Congress, were not allowed to file their nominations in various colleges during the 34-year rule of the Left Front government.

Swapan Koley, a second year Commerce student of Prabhu Jagabandhu College in Andul, died after he was hit with bricks and iron rods by members of the rival students wing on December 16.

Nine students were injured in another campus violence in the city the same day.
