Kolkata, January 15: Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu is showing signs of multi-organ failure, his personal physician Dr A K Maity said today.
The Marxist leader, who underwent a two-hour haemodialysis last night, will again undergo the process today if his health permits, he said.
“The 95-year-old leader will also undergo a tracheotomy if his condition permits”, Dr Maity, who is also on the Medical Board of the AMRI Hospital where Basu is admitted, told reporters here.
Last night’s dialysis succeeded to some extent in reversing the toxins in his blood, he said. His urine output has, however, decreased to 10 ml per hour against the normal 40 ml, he said.
Urine output usually decreases after dialysis, he added.
“There is neither any further improvement nor deterioration in his condition,” he said.
