Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary B V Raghavulu on Friday demanded that the State Government recover 1,046 acres of land allotted to the Nagarjuna Construction Company for the gas-based power project at Sompeta in Srikakulam district.
Talking to media persons at party office, Raghavulu said that the NCC was establishing the power plant in Sompeta against the wishes of people and it would cause huge damage to local environment. In a letter written to the government, he demanded that 1,046 acres of land allotted for the project be recovered immediately.
Raghavulu reminded that the National Environmental Appellate Authority has denied permission for the power project last year as it did comply with the norms. Expressing serious concern over the environment, he alleged that the government was showing negligent attitude towards the agitation being done by the local people for the last three years.
Though the Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued interim directions withdrawing cases against the activists, he said that the government was not responding properly on it by not lifting the cases which were foisted illegally. (INN)
