Court issues warrant against underworld don Abu Salem

New Delhi, April 13: A Delhi court today issued a production warrant against extradited gangster Abu Salem after Mumbai police failed to bring him before it in a case of alleged extortion registered here in 1998.

“Issue production warrant against the accused for April 22,” Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Bansal said.

The Arthur Road jail authorities had earlier also failed to produce Salem before the court on April 5, the previous date of hearing.

Earlier, the court had granted bail to co-accused Romesh Sharma, an alleged front man of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in the case.

Sharma is accused of providing details of Delhi-based businessmen to Salem, who, in turn, used to make threat calls to them for demanding protection money.

Finding prima-facie evidence against Salem, the court had ordered framing of charges against Salem under section 384 (extortion) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
