Cops adding to Hyderabad traffic woes

Hyderabad, December 16: Traffic on busy roads are being hampered with the seized vehicles kept by the police along the roadsides.

The busy Lakdikapul junction in front of the Saifabad police station is a traffic nightmare thanks to these vehicles piled up, resulting in congestion.

Similar problems have also been reported from other police stations in busy centres like Charminar.

Traffic snarls at the Lakdikapul stretch is a 24×7 affair with peak hours being exceptionally bad and officials say that they don’t have space inside the station to keep the seized vehicles. However, when pointed out, traffic cops said they would resolve the matter soon.

Traffic deputy commissioner G.V.G. Ashok Kumar said they usually requested concerned police officials to remove the vehicles from the road and keep it free for traffic.

“Generally in a short period of time the seized vehicles and vehicles seized in accident-related cases are shifted from the police station premises to the Goshamahal stadium where these vehicles are kept. We will consult with concerned police officials and resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” he said.

Similarly during the afternoon hours at Charminar, the entire stretch, especially from Gulzar House to Charminar, traffic comes to a standstill and vehicles kept outside the Traffic police station here make matters worse.

The concerned officials were not even aware of the problem. When contacted, additional deputy commissioner, Traffic, K.P. Lakshmi Naik, under whose jurisdiction the traffic police station comes, said, “I will look into the issue and do whatever is possible.”
