Hyderabad, October 22: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the city police was sentenced to one year of Rigorous Imprisonment by an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court following his conviction in a trap case.
Mohd Anwar Ahmed Khan, the ASI of Mahankali police station in the North Zone of the city police was trapped by the ACB officials on May 18, 2000 when he took a bribe of Rs 4,000.
The ASI took the amount from a woman for not registering a criminal case against her son, who was involved in a theft case, and not harassing him, an official release said on Wednesday.
A special court for ACB cases in the city convicted Ahmed Khan and sentenced him to one-year RI and also to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. The ASI has to undergo an additional month of simple imprisonment, if he fails to pay the fine amount.
