Romer to practise what Barack Obama preaches

Hyderabad, October 22: Adhering to US President Barack Obama’s suggestion, American Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer stated that he was not going to confine himself to the four walls of his diplomatic office but would be seen often in public domain.

“I will try to shake as many hands as possible. US President Obama has floated the idea of public diplomacy, which I’m going to put into practice,” the US Ambassador said.

Timothy J Roemer addressed a large gathering of reporters at a press conference organised by the AP Chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry at Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the course of the Indo-US diplomacy had taken an interesting turn from bilateral decisions to striving for mutual cooperation for global peace. “Cooperation between the countries is the most crucial element in post-9/11 (World Trade Centre attacks) and 26/11 (Mumbai bomb blasts) scenario,” he pointed out.

Recalling the association between the CII-Greeen Business Centre and US Government, Timothy said that throughout the 10 years, they had been involved in many issues together and would strive to promote market-based energy efficiency services as well as accelerate the pace of renewable energy development.

The press conference was scheduled for 3.30 pm.

But the Ambassador arrived two hours, thanks to the delay in the flight and a traffic jam on his way to HiTec City. Consulate officials said stone blasting operations were going on at the Outer Ring Road for some repair work leading to the Ambassador’s delayed arrival.
