Construction barred near Fateh Darwaza

Hyderabad, April 14: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice Ghulam Mohammad and Justice Bhavani Prasad on Tuesday made it clear that no more construction activity should be carried out near Fateh Darwaza of Golconda fort. Portions already constructed were also prohibited for being used for commercial purposes.

These interim orders were passed on a writ petition filed by Friends of Golconda and Forum for Better Hyderabad.

V.K. Bawa, the first vice-chairman of the erstwhile HUDA, who deposed on behalf of the petitioners brought out the history of the Fateh Darwaza. He said that as per the rules made under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites & Remains Act no construction was permitted within 100 metres of a protected monument.

The ASI also wrote to the Collector to remove the structures. After perusing the documents and the correspondence,
