Congress hobnobbing with ULFA: Sushma

Guwahati, March 29: Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today accused the ruling Congress in Assam of hobnobbing with the banned ULFA for electoral benefits.

”The Congress has been hobnobbing with the ULFA and it is known to all,” she said.
Ms Swaraj, however, added that the Congress’ attempts to get the militants on their side fell apart and hence the party was now being threatened by the same outfit.

”The Congress’ attempts didn’t succeed. And because of it, they are facing the threat now,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who is here to campaign for BJP in next month’s assembly polls, said.

The hardliner faction of the ULFA had threatened of targeting the Congress in the run-up to the polls, scheduled on April 4 and 11.

Exuding confidence that the BJP will perform well in Assam, Ms Swaraj said, ”The aim of the party is to form the government here.

Post-poll ties with any party will be decided by the BJP’s central election committee after the results are out.”

She identified three factors that are working against the ruling dispensation.
”A strong anti-incumbency wave and utter disappointment with the Congress-led Central government has affected the Congress here,” she said, adding that a positive wave was blowing for the BJP, hampering the Congress’ poll prospects further.

Stating that the people wanted a change, Ms Swaraj said the BJP was emerging as the alternative for the ruling party in the state.

Ms Swaraj, who arrived here late last night, will be addressing three election rallies in Barak Valley at North Karimganj, Silchar and Borkhola.
