Cong to stake claim to retain Pondy RS seat

Puducherry, June 25: The ruling Congress in Puducherry is all set to stake claim to the lone Rajya Sabha seat here which has been vacated by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, V Narayanasamy following his election to Lok Sabha.

The party’s move to contest the seat comes a day after its ally DMK denied reports that its local unit wanted to stake a claim for the seat.

The Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) leader P Kannan, who supported the Congress-DMK front in the Lok Sabha polls, had also clarified that his support was unconditional, though earlier he wanted the Congress to allot the Rajya Sabha seat to his party for the backing.

A senior Congress leader here told PTI that there would be nothing wrong for the party to stake claim to the seat as is already with it.

Narayanasamy was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2003.
