Lucknow, August 28: Amid complaints of tardy implementation of Central schemes like the flagship rural job guarantee programme NREGS by the BSP-ruled UP government, Congress has launched a drive to help the target groups.
This comes after the recent visits by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul to the state during which people complained that there were not getting the benefits of Central schemes meant for their welfare.
“The party is helping beneficiaries fill up demand letters and complete other formalities so that the state government does not get any excuse for denying them jobs under NREGS,” Chairman of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme monitoring committee of Congress Sanjay Dixit said today.
He alleged that till March this year, the state had issued 1.7 crore job cards but the number of people getting work under the scheme was mere 41 lakhs
