Complaints galore as Ahmedullah visits Makkah Masjid

Hyderabad, August 08: Minority Welfare Minister Ahmedullah Syed on Saturday inspected the arrangements in the Historic Makkah Masjid prior to the advent of the Holy Month of Ramzaan.

As soon the Minister made his way inside the Masjid premises, the worshippers complained that the condition of the biggest mosque in south India was pathetic to say the least. The worshippers complained that the negligence of the caretakers reflected in the condition of the hooks of the massive chandeliers to the lavatories.

The lack of funds is too taking its toll on keeping the Masjid in pristine shape, the worshippers say.

A regular worshipper at the Masjid said that “it has been two years since promises were made by leaders of the ruling party to get the hooks of the chandeliers replaced since they have become fragile, renovate the Minars, cleaning the Ablution Pool or the Houz as it is called, renovate the toilets and provide drinking water. Unfortunately the promises made have not been kept.”

The Minister was requested to make sure that adequate drinking water was supplied while the hooks holding the chandeliers were repaired, Minar repaired and the Masjid regains its pristine glory.

While Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri urged the Minister to set up lockers next at the doorway to keep valuables of the worshippers safe, since bags were no longer allowed inside the Masjid due to security fears.

Beside this, requests for waterproof tents were also made in view of the monsoon being prevalent in the city.

Mr Ahmedullah assured the worshippers and the local leaders that he would meet Chief Minister K Rosaiah and discuss their demands.

In addition to this, the Minister Ahmedullah assured to sanction Rs 4.5 lakh for the repair of CCTVs cameras, since only 17 of the 82 installed are functional.
