Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra on Thursday constituted committees to conduct preparatory work for holding elections to local urban bodies and panchayats.
An order issued by the state General Administration Department (GAD) said that for the state-level committee, the Principal Secretary (Home) would be the chairman and state police chief, state intelligence chief and the two divisional commissioners of Jammu and the Valley would be its members.
The state-level committee would hold preparatory work for the panchayat elections while the committees for urban local bodies elections would be chaired by the two divisional commissioners of Jammu and the Valley.
Panchayat elections were last held in the state in 2011 and the local urban bodies elections were in 2005.
