Hyderabad: Two-member Committee appointed by the Union Human Resources Development Minister Smrithi Irani has collected information on the suicide of Dalit research scholar Vemula Rohit here on Tuesday at University of Hyderabad amidst protests by the students.
Speaking to the media, Two-member Committee member Shakila T Shamshad said that the Committee was only a Fact Finding Committee. It will collect information from the University students and staff on the reasons led to Rohit’s suicide. Shamshad said that they had a meeting with students and staff and collected the information on happenings in the University for the last few days. Shamshad said that time will take to prepare a report on the episode.
On the other hand, the students raised slogans in front of the Committee members and demanded them to remove the vice-chancellor Apparao from his position immediately. (NSS)
