New Delhi, Sept.10 : Congress Party president Sonia Gnadhi on Thursday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government to first come clean on the legal cases that they were involved in, before casting aspersions on the credibility of her party and other opposition entities.
Reacting Prime Minister Modi’s “Hawalabaazi” comment made at the World Hindi Conference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, today, and to the pointed remark that the Congress was stopping national progress and development by stalling proceedings in parliament, Gandhi said, “Did they (Modi and NDA) have a word to say about the foreign minister’s (Sushma Swaraj and Lalit Modi) case, or the case involving Rajasthan chief minister (Vasundhara Raje and Lalit Modi)?”
She added, “Did they have a word to say over the selection of lawyers in the panels of various states, or the panel at the Centre to defend the cases in which the government is involved?”
Gandhi was specifically referring to the case of absconding former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi, in which both Swaraj and Raje, had reportedly facilitated the release of his travel documents to allow him to be with his ailing wife at a medical facility in Portugal.
She was responding to Modi’s broadside against the Congress Party on the issue of the Land Acquisition Bill and the Goods and Services Tax Bill. (ANI)
