Palakkad (Ker),October 16: The Kerala Coir Board has set an export target of Rs 700 crore in 2009-10, which is Rs 60 crore higher than the previous year.
As the worldwide demand for bio fibre products is on the rise, export of coir products have steadily been increasing, Board Chairman V S Vijayaraghavan told reporters here today.
T give a boost for the traditional sector, a Rs 20 crore scheme for creation of 26 coir production clusters would be created across the state.
An international coir meet would be organised as part of the Golden Jubilee of the Central Coir Research Institute in Alappuzha this year.
Experts and producers from Asia Pacific regions would be invited to the meet which would showcase traditional and modern technologies used for making coir products, he said.
