CM opens park near Khairatabad flyover

Hyderabad, July 17: Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday inaugurated Lake View Park developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) near Khairatabad flyover and laid a foundation stone for a Road Over Bridge at Sanjeevaiah Park.

As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, HMDA and BPP took up the beautification of the area during August 2008.

The once squalid pool has been restored to its pristine glory. The lake would provide a refreshing lung space and provide a pleasant sight for those proceeding to Necklace Road via Khairatabad flyover. The pond was abused for defecation and dumping debris earlier. It was silted and an eyesore apart from rendering its surroundings unhygienic.

BPP/HMDA took up the restoration after the local community approached them to improve hygiene in the area.

The HMWS&SB diverted the sewerage flow entering the pond by improving the sewer network in the adjacent slums. The water spread area was increased by about 4.5 acres from the existing about 2.4 acre for a total of about of 7 acre. BPP officials said the area will be protected and maintained as part of the Hussainsagar lake, walkways have been created along the edges of the water body.

Species of about 9,000 plants have been planted in the entire area. Walkways have been developed on the bund portion for the benefit of walkers in about 2 km length. Greenery is being developed under the Khairtabad flyover.

The area is protected with a CRS masonry compound wall and fencing to a length of 1.3 km. Toilet blocks have been provided. Two jetties have been developed for boating activity. Fifty granite benches are provided along the joggers track.

The CM also laid a stone for Road Over Bridge at Sanjeevaiah Park. The construction of RoB facilitates direct access to traffic from Necklace Road to SD Road at NTR Statue junction, avoiding busy junctions like Begumpet, Greenlands and Punjagutta Junctions.

The construction of the RoB is jointly funded by GHMC and HMDA.

The project cost is Rs 25 crore. The RoB is designed for a four-lane with 7.5 mt dual carriage way with central median and footpath on either side. The length of the flyover would be 540 metre.
