CM To Open National Green Corps Meet On Aug. 26

Hyderabad, August 19: The national conference of National Green Corps (NGC) clubs will be held from August 26 to 29 at the CESS Auditorium, Institute of Genetic Compound, Ameerpet here. Some 220 delegates from 150 schools from all over the country are expected to attend.

Announcing this to the media persons in the Secretariat, the Minister for Forests and Environment, Mr P Ramachandra Reddy, said that the State government has launched the National Green Corps to create awareness in the students and youth about the environment, power and water saving. From 5,750 schools, three lakh students have been enrolled in the NGC clubs in the State.

The minister said that Andhra Pradesh stood at top in the implementation of environmental education program. He also pointed out that the NGC has developed environmental education activity books, which were prescribed and being used for ninth, tenth and Intermediate courses in the State.

He said that the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, will inaugurate the national conference on August 26. Some 150 best eco clubs with 150 students and 100 teachers from all over the country would participate in the national conference, he added.

The conference was aimed at promoting environmental program ideas and to recognize the best efforts of young children from the schools in environment conservation. “We have also invited a team of six best NGC eco clubs from each State along with the State Nodal Officer”, he added.

During the four-day conference, group discussions, workshops on puppetry, journalism, flash mob dance, green idol making, cartooning, debates, mock eco parliaments would be held, he added. The delegates would also visit CII Godrej Green Business center at Hitec City, sewerage treatment plant at NTR Marg and so on. (NSS)
