Hyderabad, March 12: The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, admitted there were certain lapses on the part of some police officials in preventing violence. The government had prior intelligence inputs on the danger posed to the statues and the police tried to prevent it and sustained injuries in the process.
He said he appreciated the discipline and restraint shown by the police force and lauded them for being a role model for the country. He pointed out that preventive measures taken by the government ensured that the public exams scheduled on the day of the march were conducted peacefully.
Measures were also taken that brought down the numbers participating in the Million March to merely 8,000-10,000 people, he said. The CM said that the police might have erred in their assessment of the situation because of the involvement of multiple political and social organisations in the march.
