Clinton condemns suicide bombings in Iran

Washington, July 16: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today condemned the suicide attacks at a mosque that killed more than 20 people in the Sistan-Balochistan province of Iran.

“The United States extends its sympathy to the families and loved ones of those injured and killed. We also call for the perpetrators of this horrific attack to be held accountable for their actions,” Clinton said in a statement.

The attack at the Jamia mosque in the restive city of Zahedan, capital of southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province, took place as people celebrated the birthday of Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.

Noting that the US condemns all forms of terrorism and sectarian-driven violence, Clinton said: “This attack, along with the recent attacks in Uganda, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Algeria, underscores the global community’s need to work together to combat terrorist organisations that threaten the lives of innocent civilians all around the world.
