Chidambaram hatches conspiracy to divide AP: TDP

Vijayawada, Janaury 03: The opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) in Andhra Pradesh has criticised the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for allegedly hatching a “conspiracy” to divide Andhra Pradesh into two States. Talking to newspersons here, Senior TDP leaders G Muddu Krishnama Naidu and S Chandramohan Reddy said though there was a faster development in the State, as compared to his(Chidmabaram) home State Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra, Mr Chidambaram had made a statement on December nine, on setting in motion the process of formation of Telangana State without consulting the UPA partners.

They recalled that the UPA partners like Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Nationalist Congress Party(NCP)had already raised objections on the statement issued by the Home Minister and demanded the Congress party to make its stand clear ahead of the all-party meeting with eight recognised political parties at New Delhi on January five on the Telangana issue.

The TDP leaders also demanded the Congress party to clarify on the fate of the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s committee on Telangana, which had been constituted by the Centre earlier.

They said the All India Congress Committee(AICC) President and the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi should specify on what action she is going to initate against the party’s MPs and legislators belonging to the State as they “backtracked” after supporting the single-line resolution passed in the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) meeting that they resolved to leave the decision on Telangana to Ms Gandhi.

They questioned the Congress party to explain why it was not showing interest when the demands of formation of smaller states like Vidarbha, Bundelkhand and others were cropping up, as the party applied its mind on the separate Telangana State.

They admitted that they were unable to clairfy the TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu’s stand on Telangana, as Mr Naidu at present was consulting the party leaders from all the districts. A final decision in this regard would be known by January four, they added.
