Chennai, October 30: With increase in incidents of attacks on trains, the Centre today said passenger safety was its top priority and steps were being taken to ensure full security of the travellers.
“Full security would be provided to the passengers in all the trains. This is our top priority,” Minister of State for Railways E Ahmad told reporters here.
His comments comes days after the Centre warned that the incident of seizure of trains by Maoist-backed tribals like the recent hijack of Bhubaneswar-Delhi Rajdhani Express could take place in future also.
Ahmad said the number of passengers registered a growth of 2.43 per cent during April-September 2009 and stood at 8.2 million over the same period a year ago.
“Earnings through passengers increased by four per cent compared to previous year”, he added.
