Center’s deadline for ‘T’ is over, what next?

Hyderabad, November 08: Center’s assurance of announcing a clear decision on Telangana after Bakrid festival makes everyone in the state anxious about it.

Since, the deadline of Bakrid festival is over today, now everyone is anxiously looking towards New Delhi to hear its decision. Home Minister Chidambaram’s recent flying visit to Hyderabad and his consequent lengthy secret meetings with CM, Dy.CM, with some key leaders and police top-brass creates tension among the Telangana leaders.

His meeting with DGP Dinesh Reddy and Intelligence Bureau Chief Mahindra Reddy, his video conference meeting with DSPs and SPs of Telangana region indicates that the Center’s decision would be not favorable on Telangana. His meetings with Ministers and Police top-brass might be for alerting them to face the consequent reaction (troubles) expected from TRS and other pro-Telangana leaders and parties.

What are the options?
1.The Congress party which can’t afford to loose Telangana to KCR or to his TRS party, likely to prolong the issue until 2014 general elections by announcing some sort of relief packages to Telangana region. Congress party may take the help of its Ministers like Jana Reddy, Danam Nagendar and others who were already branded as Telangana betrayer to cross swords with TRS and other pro-Telangana parties.

2.The less-damaging idea would be announcing Hyderabad as Union Territory. When compared to bifurcation of the state it is less-damaging, because in this case Congress has to face the ire of Telangana leaders and their parties only and not rest of the state or its leaders. They have already expressed their willingness for this proposal. So, Congress may opt for this chance as secondary.

3.Bifurcation of the State as demanded by TRS party would be suicidal for Congress party. So, Congress may not prefer for this idea. Even, if it dares for it then it has to wipe off its hands from the only one state left for it in the south-Andhra Pradesh. Because, KCR and TRS claiming the credit of getting statehood to Telangana will grab Telangana region for himself.

People in rest of the state, who may turn furious on Congress party for dividing the state against their will, may hug Chandrababu or Jagan to teach a good lesson to Congress party. So, bifurcation means nothing but suicidal for Congress party. Hence, this may be the last and least preferred option for Congress party. So, we may expect Congress announce either of the first two decisions in the coming days.
