New Delhi, October 29: The death sentence given to the 3 assassins Murugan, Shantan and Perarivalan of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi is still dingdongs between courts and the Governments. Madras High Court has stayed their death sentence for 8 weeks on 30th August, after President of India rejects the mercy petitions.
Then, the Center has filed an affidavit in the MHC opposing to convert their death sentence into life term. Center argues that, no one or under no rule can challenge the decision of President of India. If it is allowed, then it will become a bad practice in future also. This petition has come before MHC on Friday and the court has adjourned it to 29th next month.
Tamilnadu Government has filed another affidavit in Madras High Court asking it to scrap all the petitions filed in favor of the assassins as there are no reasons to excuse the assassins.
However, since the case is adjourned the death sentence of the assassins is also prolongs automatically and it may prolong further as many people in Tamilnadu are strategically filing separate petitions objecting the death sentence to prolong the case.
