Censor Board officials raid Odeon theatre, seize Veera print

Hyderabad, June 02: The Censor Board officials and the police raided the Odeon theatre on Wednesday and seized the print of the Telugu film Veera, which was being screened with all the scenes objected to and cut by the four-member examining committee.

Ms Dhanalaxmi, regional officer of the Board, sought an explanation from the filmmakers for “clandestinely” including scenes with a snake and some violent visuals that were cut by the examining committee.

“The two scenes pertaining to the snake did not have the permission of the Animal Welfare Board and also they were not shown to the examining committee, but were added later, which is a violation,” Ms Dhanalaxmi said. Ms Dhanalaxmi had herself watched the film in the theatre after receiving complaints from censor board members. She then emba-rked on the first raid of her tenure, accompanied by board members and police personnel.

So will there be more raids on Telugu films now?
“There is no need to panic since I strictly go by the law. But people who violate it will not be spared. However, police officials can book cases against them,” she answered. However, the public relations officer of the film claims that the shows will resume since the producer has given the necessary explanation.
