CBSE to re-conduct postponed exams in Punjab on April 27

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will re-conduct Class 10th and 12th examinations on April 27.

The examinations were cancelled earlier this month due to a Bharat bandh.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the board announced the new schedule for the exams that were originally scheduled for April 2.

For Class Xth – French, Sanskrit and Urdu Course-B exams will be re-conducted while for Class XIIth Gujarati, Nepali, Kashmiri, Hindi- Elective and Core exams will be done.

After the request of the Punjab government in view of bandh called by several Dalit organisations against the alleged dilution of the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the CBSE had postponed the papers scheduled on April 2.

During the previous nation-wide strike on April 2, protests across the country turned violent after agitators resorted to stone pelting, damaging public properties and blocking rail and road traffic movements.

Violent protests were reported from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, and Punjab, and in all over 10 people died in the violence.

The April 2 Bharat Bandh was called to protest against the Supreme Court’s ruling on the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The Dalit bodies claim that March 20 order diluted the Act, which seeks protection of marginalised communities against discrimination and atrocities.

A review petition has been filed in the apex court in this regard.
