CBI picks up pace in Jagan case, grills ex-CS

Hyderabad, February 04: With the focus now shifting away from the Emaar-APIIC township scam case, the pace has picked up in the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy assets case. The Central Bureau of Investigation has now shifted its focus to the alleged irregularities in granting of projects and leases to investors in the companies owned by Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy. Former chief secretary, presently state election commissioner P. Ramak-anth Reddy appeared before the CBI on the second consecutive day on Friday.

The CBI sleuths grilled him regarding the Gover-nment Orders during YSR’s rule. Mr Ramakanth Reddy told reporters later that he was asked whether there was any pressure to take decisions. He said that he had told the CBI officials there was no pressure from any quarters and the orders were issued based on decisions taken by the Cabinet. Mr Ramakanth Reddy told the CBI officials that after going through the documents, everything was done as per rules and there were no irregularities.

Sourcse said that the CBI posed several questions regarding Vanpic projects of Nimmagadda Prasad and several other projects. A senior police official said, “If the CBI has to prove the case against Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, first the investigators will have to establish that there are irregularities in allocations. If they can’t find evidence of this, the question of quid pro quo will not arise. When all allocations are made as per the rules then where is the case?”

CBI has already arrested Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s auditor V. Vijay Sai Reddy in the case. It is now trying to find evidence against Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy.
