New Delhi: Hundreds of people took part in a candle light march at India Gate here to pay tributes to Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz, who was abducted and killed by militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week.
Some of them were carrying posters and banners to convey their respect for Fayaz and their admiration and love for the Indian Army.
There was a large presence of youth at the India Gate lawns, some of whom said they wanted to join the Army. Many ex-servicemen also took part in the march.
The officers of 129th National Defence Academy course attended by Fayaz gave the call for the march.
Fayaz was on leave and visiting his native place in Kulgam to attend the marriage of his maternal uncle’s daughter in Batapura village when militants kidnapped him on Tuesday. His bullet-riddled body was found on Wednesday.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has released posters of three militants, saying they were responsible for the killing of Kashmiri Army officer.
