Canada’s PM expresses interest in joining the ASEAN summit

Manila: Justin Trudeau Canada’s Prime Minister on Tuesday has expressed his countries interests in joining the ASEAN summit.
He said that his country was looking forward to joining the East Asia Summit in order to “grow our engagement with ASEAN and expand access to markets of member states”.
The East Asia Summit a forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit meets annually to discuss issues related to the regions.
Trudeau expressed that it is “Canada’s desire to join the East Asia Summit and the Asean Defence Ministers Meeting Plus.”
He added that this summit is the principal platform to discuss issues related to the Pacific region and that his country’s accession to the group would be a natural progression towards Canada’s participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
The East Asia Summit is a forum made up of the US, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and the 10 ASEAN members.
