Cabinet Secy reviews situation after GST rollout

New Delhi [India]: Union Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha on Monday reviewed the situation after the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Secretaries, senior officers of different departments including textile, food & consumer affairs, food processing, railways, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), rural development, tourism, fertilizer, pharma, , etcetera participated in the review meeting, which was focussed on the impact of the GST on consumers.

Sinha asked every secretary to take up the responsibility of their own stakeholders, trade and industry and with state officers as far as implementation of GST is concerned.

He also emphasised on to keep prices of essential commodities under check and to ensure benefits of GST to pass on to consumers which would in turn also keep inflation under control.

The Government has asked all the departments to ensure that there is no shortage of products and consumer items in order to keep a check on prices.

Each ministry has been asked to provide all the relevant info, including GST rates on their respective websites.

Sinha asked the concerned departments to ensure that retailers, dealers, shopkeepers should display a ready price list under GST of items sold by them and the computerised billing should be calibrated at the earliest as per the new GST rates.

He also asked all the departments to be ready to deal with queries of their respective stakeholders concerning GST.

“In order to do that officers of every Ministry should equip themselves and have full knowledge of the details relating to GST concerning their respective Ministry,” the Cabinet secretary said.

A similar weekly review meeting will be held to keep a close watch on GST rollout. (ANI)
