BSF put on high alert along Rajasthan border

Barmer, November 13: Even as Pakistan fights to regain control of areas occupied by the Taliban, intelligence reports warn that militants in the neighboring country are planning a fresh terror attack on India.

The BSF has consequently been put on high alert along the Rajasthan border.

The Border Security Force is sensing a new threat from the Taliban, and an alert has been sounded on the desert frontier.

“It is a major challenge, as now a days things not going well across the border. We have received lot of information about anti-national activities. We are on alert and ready to face any challenge,” says N K Gujjar – DIG, Barmer Sector (Gujarat Frontier).

Guarding the border is a challenging task. The shifting dunes makes it necessary for the fences to be repaired again and again.

“This fencing is a vintage fencing, which is 15 years old. Fencing should be replaced in a span of ten years,” says P K Tiwari – Commandant, Barmer Sector (Gujarat Frontier).

Security apparatus in the Barmer sector has come in for criticism after 50 kilos of RDX and a huge cache of arms were recovered from the area in September. The consignment was smuggled from Pakistan for a Babbar Khalsa terrorist.

“We have increased the patrolling and raised the Nakas and OPDs on the border. I, along with other officers, are manning the borders with maximum halts in these areas,” adds N K Gujjar – DIG, Barmer Sector (Gujarat Frontier).

With the situation going from bad to worse across the border in Pakistan, BSF has to be on high alert.

The senior officials in the BSF inform that the patrolling has been raised to two times a day. But the main challenge is not only manning this border, but also fighting tough weather conditions.
